Epic 450MX Treadmill Review

Our Epic 450MX treadmill review assesses a good looking treadmill from a value for money brand - is it a good buy?

Epic is one of fitness giant Icon's stronger brands and offers a line up of well specified, good quality treadmills at affordable prices.

Ok, the 450MX isn't suitable for serious running, but for walkers and joggers it should be more than adequate.

Best of all you can buy it for under $800, which makes it one of the most competitively priced treadmills in this range and well worth a look.

Epic 450MX Treadmill Review - What's it Like...?

With it's Epic brand, Icon has eschewed some of the fluff and frills that it uses to market some of its other brands and instead has concentrated on the important components of any treadmill - the motor, deck and frame.

For starters there's a 2.25 HP motor on the Epic 450MX, not huge but fine for brisk walks and gentle jogs with its top speed of 10 mph.

The motor does sound like it's straining a little at or near top speed so it's probably advisable to stick to lower speeds most of the time.

The motor copes reasonably well with the large belt, which offers a generous 55" x 20" running area so there's room to stretch out on.

The deck is quite comfortable and has adequate cushioning that should prove kind to your joints in the longer term.

The deck also inclines to a 12% gradient if you fancy a few hills to walk up and folds away if you need to reclaim some floorspace inbetween workouts.

The one touch speed and incline controls are well placed on the arms to avoid the need to reach out to the console during a training session.

The console display is Icon's standard 7" x 10" unit that's clear and easy to use if somewhat rudimentary.

The six workout programs include two heart control programs, although there's no wireless heart rate monitor included to make the most of them, with only pulse grip monitors fitted as standard.

As with all Icon brands the main shortcomings with the 450MX are the warranties - 12 years on the motor is pretty good, but the year on the parts and 90 days on the labour aren't.

This model lists for a ridiculous $1,999, but our Epic 450MX treadmill review found it at less than half price for $749 at WorkoutWarehouse.com

  • The Epic 450MX is a solid treadmill for walkers and joggers. It's pretty well made for the price and should perform well for many a home workout.

It's not worth the ludicrous 'regular price' of $1,999 - who are they trying to kid! - but is a steal at $749.
