Epic 800MX Treadmill Review
Our Epic 800MX treadmill review takes a look at a solid machine at a pretty attractive price - is it worth the money? Not at the list price it's not, but if you can get it for under $1,000 it adds up to a competitive package. Granted, it's not the best treadmill you'll ever run on but if you're looking for an affordable machine that's reasonably well put together then the 600MX may well be what you're looking for. You could certainly spend more and do a lot worse.
Epic 800MX Treadmill Review - What's it Like...?
Icon Health and Fitness owns Epic and has produced a good value, well put together treadmill in the 800MX that should sell well at the right price.Whilst many Icon brands fail to impress despite the slick packaging, Epic treadmills stick to the basics and whilst they don't excel in any particular respect they represent a good value option in a crowded market. The Epic 800MX treadmill is equipped with a respectable 2.75 HP continuous duty motor capable of 12 mph, which is just about enough for runners although 3.0 HP would be better. However, this should prove adequate for walkers and joggers. The large belt offers a big 60" x 20" running area, which is generous although I'm not absolutely convinced that the motor is powerful enough to cope without showing signs of strain in the longer term. As with the rest of the Epic range, the deck is nicely cushioned with big 2.5" rollers that make for a stable running surface and should minimise belt friction and the resultant wear and tear on the belt. The deck inclines to a 12% gradient and has a one touch power incline control that smoothly raises the running surface without any interruption to your workout. As with the 600MX, the 800MX folds up completely and is compact enough when folded to store away in most corners. The frame is a reasonably solid piece of equipment that should prove durable if the max user weight of 350lbs is anything to go by. The back lit ClearView 7" x 10" display console is Icon's standard unit and proves functional enough, although it's a little rudimentary. There are 12 workout programs, including two custom programs as well as a pulse grip heart rate monitor and built in cooling fans that are welcome during long workouts. Icon warranties are getting better with a 15 year warranty on the 800MX's motor, although the two years parts and one year labour warranties could be more generous. This model lists for $1,799, but our Epic 800MX treadmill review found it with a huge discount for just $899 at WorkoutWarehouse.com although shipping costs extra.
Epic 800MX Treadmill Review - How Does it Rate...?
The Epic 800MX treadmill is a model well worth considering if you can get it at the discounted price. A decent motor, large deck and reasonable build quality at an excellent price mark it out from much of the competition at this end of the market - if only all Icon treadmills were such good value! I wouldn't pay the full price though, as treadmills from the likes of Sole and Spirit - essentially the same machines from parent company Dyaco with a different badge - are a better bet in this price range. If you fancy an Epic 800MX and want a big discount, then you may want to check out WorkoutWarehouse.com
