Landice L970 Treadmill Review

Any Landice L970 treadmill review will tell you what a fantastic machine this is - but is it a little over the top for the average home user?

Well, yes it is really. The L970 is one of Landice's commercial offerings and is built and priced accordingly.

If you expect an army of people to use your treadmill every day or just want the bragging rights of having pretty much the best machine money can buy, then the L970 is for you.

However, the L770 Home Sport or Pro Sport will do the job at half the price.

As a commercial treadmill, the L970 comes only in the Club spec - so, what does the L970 deliver as a top of the pile treadmill...?

Landice L970 Treadmill Review - What's it Like...?

The bewildering choice of models you get with the L770 is less of an issue with the narrower L970 range.

But before we get into that, what's the basic machine like?

To begin with, you get the phenomenal Baldor 3.0 HP continuous duty motor. This is quality piece of engineering that merely whispers along as it drives the huge belt with its massive 63" x 22" running area to 12 mph.

The deck inclines to a 12% gradient if more intensity is needed.

The belt is another high quality component - Landice claims that the 4 ply construction is virtually stretch proof and should withstand the wear and tear of daily commercial use much better than the 2 ply belts that most treadmills in this price range come with.

The big, steel rollers measure 3.5" and weigh 22 lbs. They ensure the smooth travel of the belt and are a major reason for the excellent ride quality of the L970.

The variable flex shock absorption cushioning system absorbs side to side as well as up and down shock, for the most comfortable ride you'll experience on a treadmill.

The deck itself contributes to this and measures 1" thick, as opposed to the 3/4" thickness that most treadmills at this price have.

The overall stability of the Landice L970 treadmill is largely down to the aluminium frame, which is much stronger than the steel frames you'll find on most treadmills.

Granted, it adds to the price but is what you should expect on expensive machines like this. It won't corrode and should last a lifetime.

And then there's the warranties. Landice offers a lifetime warranty on the frame, parts and wear items (motor, etc) and one year on the labour.

But you do need to buy it from a dealer and have it installed by them within a 60 mile radius of the dealership for the lifetime warranties to be valid.

If you buy your Landice treadmill online then a commercial warranty applies - five years on the frame, parts and wear items and one year on the labour. The dealer should also deliver and install it for you.

This is a trade off really. Dealer prices will always be higher than online prices, so do you buy a treadmill with a big discount and lose the lifetime warranty? Or pay a premium at a dealer and get the lifetime warranties?

Considering that Landice treadmills don't break and you pay for the labour anyway after a year, the lower online prices may be worth going for.

Ok, that's the basic treadmill - now for the various models

The L770 comes in 4 different versions - easier to review than the 13 L770 models!

Here's a guide...the L970 comes in the Club version, which is intended for full commercial use.

You can also choose from four treadmill specs:

  • Sports Trainer - Very basic console display, no workout programs
  • Pro Sports Trainer - Basic console display, 10 workout programs
  • Cardio Trainer - Better display, 12 workout programs, 3 fitness tests
  • Executive Trainer - Brilliant display, 14 workout programs, 6 fitness tests
  • There are a few more features with each spec, but you're essentially paying for better displays and more workout programs.

So, that's the Landice L970 treadmill range - how much of a hit on your bank balance can you expect?

  • Landice L970 Club Sport Treadmill - $4,495
  • Landice L970 Club ProSport Treadmill - $4,695
  • Landice L970 Club Cardio Treadmill - $5,095
  • Landice L970 Club Executive Treadmill - $5,695
  • If you're planning on buying a Landice L970 treadmill online, then check out

BigFitness is a quality retailer and we've found their prices on Landice treadmills to be pretty much the cheapest from an online retailer.

Landice L970 Treadmill Review - How Does it Rate...?

    Landice L970 Treadmill
  • Power - 10
  • Running Area - 10
  • Cushioning - 10
  • Build Quality - 10
  • Reliability - 9
  • Noise - 8
  • Design - 9
  • Controls and Programs - 7
  • Warranties - 10
  • Value for Money - 9

  • OVERALL RATING - 92/100
  • It's a little simpler to rate the Landice L970 treadmill than the L770 and L870 as there are so fewer versions to choose from, although each is basically the same treadmill with a few additions depending on the spec.

As far as the basics are concerned, there's not a lot you can say really - its a brilliantly conceived and superbly realised treadmill from a specialist manufacturer than knows what its doing.

The controls and programs score is a composite and reflects the variation between the basic Sports console and the Rolls Royce Executive console.

As such, the rating is a composite score - add a few marks for the console and programs as you work up from Sport to Executive and take off a mark or two for value for money.

Why? Well, for my money they don't add a great deal for quite a lot more cash.

However, if you want a commercial treadmill, the punters are likely to appreciate the bells and whistles that the Executive console offers.

The ultimate question is if you're buying a treadmill for home use, should you consider a L970?

No, unless you have deep pockets and the cache that it will confer you don't really need a treadmill like this.

However, the Landice L970 treadmill is simply outstanding and one of the best treadmills you can buy. Period.
