ProForm C500 Treadmill Review
Our ProForm C500 treadmill review assesses a good looking machine that at the right price appears a bargain - is it?Whilst we're not fans of ProForm treadmills per se, of late they have been coming out with some great value treadmills - which whilst not for serious runners represent a decent choice for casual home exercisers. The C500 is a case in point, where parent company Icon Health and Fitness has put its huge R&D budget to good effect and come up with a pretty decent treadmill that can be bought at a very affordable price. Many more treadmills like this from ProForm and we may have to reassess our views of the company's products!
ProForm C500 Treadmill Review - What's it Like...?
At first glance the C500 looks like a compact, well designed and attractive treadmill. On closer inspection you can see the usual shortcomings of Icon treadmills, with the use of some cheap components to keep prices down and areas where the finishing could be better. However, we are talking about a treadmill that you can get for under $500 so temper your expectations. What do you get at this price?. The C500 has a 2.75 HP motor, although this is its peak output - its actually 1.75 HP continous duty. Capable of up to 10 mph it's not bad though for the price and enough to power the belt with its 50" x 19" walking area. This is fine for walking on but don't expect to run on it. The cushioning isn't bad, with the ProStride impact reducing system providing a comfortable landing - certainly better than I expected. As well as manually folding, the deck inclines to 10%, which provides some added intensity to your walking workout. ProForm invariably over delivers when it comes to the gadgets and gizmos and the C500 is no exception. The display console is the backlit ClearView console found on a number of other models and is pretty good, displaying all the workout info you need in an easy to read layout. Features like the Motivational Racetrack will add some interest to your fitness routine. Heart rate monitoring is via pulse grips on the handles. There are also six preset workout programs to choose from. The one touch speed and power incline controls are a welcome addition and ensure that making adjustments mid-workout don't interfere with your routine. As usual, the warranties let ProForm down and the 90 days on the parts and labour is woeful. The ProForm C500 retails for $899, but you can get it with a substantial discount for $499 at WorkoutWarehouse with free shipping included - at this price the C500 is excellent value.
ProForm C500 Treadmill Review - How Does it Rate...?
The price is the determining factor for me when assessing the ProForm C500 treadmill - get it for under $500 and it's tremendous value, but don't pay anywhere near the list price of $899. Whilst it is a good value machine, it's not a serious choice for runners - look at a treadmill from someone like Spirit or Sole for a high quality, great value treadmill to run on. For walkers or occasional joggers the C500 is a great option at the discounted price - just don't expect it to take too much punishment!
