Reebok 9500 ES Treadmill Review

The Reebok 9500 ES treadmill promises the best of both worlds - a TV and sound system and a pretty decent treadmill combined, but is it any good?

The Reebok 9500 treadmill is one of Reebok's 'commercial' treadmills - designed to emulate the workout experience that you might expect at your local gym.

It's not a club quality treadmill, but the 9500 ES is a pretty good mid-price model that introduces a ton of home entertainment to your home workout.

Icon Health and Fitness, which has licensed the Reebok brand for this range of treadmills excels at this type of machine...a TV, a decent sound system, lots of gadgets and gizmos.

But underneath it all lurks a not bad at all treadmill that can be bought at some heavily discounted prices.

Reebok 9500 ES Treadmill Review - What's it Like...?

Ok, let's get the TV out of the way first. The 9500 ES comes equipped with a 7" flat screen TV on the dash - no reason alone to buy a treadmill, but a welcome addition if you like to watch TV to help wile away the miles.

The speakers actually sound pretty good and all in all it's not a bad entertainment package.

But what about the business end of the treadmill?

Well, for starters there's the big 3.5 HP motor - a quiet, powerful unit that has no trouble shifting the large belt with it's spacious 60" x 20" running area to a maximum 12 mph.

The cushioning is both forgiving on impact and firm and responsive on take off and should prove kind to your joints in the longer term.

The deck inclines to a 12% gradient if you fancy running up a few a hills and the power assist folding mechanism makes folding up the deck and storing the treadmill simple and straightforward.

It's not all good, though as the Reebok 9500 ES treadmill suffers a few of Icon's familiar shortcomings - some poor components here and there, together with a slight lack of attention in the finishing.

However, overall the build quality is pretty good and this is a solid, stable, chunky machine that doesn't look like it will break easily.

The 9500 ES comes with a staggering 35 workout programs - come on, do you really think you'll use them all?

The one touch speed control comes in handy as does the Autobreeze fan.

Another area where the 9500 ES is let down are the warranties. Sure, the 20 year motor warranty is pretty good, but the rest are nothing to write home about - particularly the one year on the TV, which is pricey to replace.

The Reebok 9500 ES lists for $2,499 - well overpriced - but can be bought with a big discount for $1,399 at WorkoutWarehouse although shipping is an extra $125.

  • At the discounted price the Reebok 9500 ES represents terrific value - you get a huge amount for your money and all for under $1,500.

It's easy to get carried away with the frills, such as the TV and other gadgets - but at the heart of the 9500 ES is a pretty solid machine with a powerful motor and big deck.

Ok, it's not a Sole and the build quality lets it down a little as do the warranties, but hey, at this price you'd be hard pressed to get as much for your money from anywhere else.
