In my estimation, the XT200 offers a serious, good value treadmill that should suit runners needing a machine that will provide an intense workout, day after day. It's not quite commercial quality, but the powerful motor, roomy deck and sturdy build quality get you tantalisingly close for less than $2,000. So how does Spirit manage that?

Hop on the machine, fire it up and the improvements that Spirit has made from their older, clunky models is immediately apparent. For starters there's a powerful motor with a whopping 3.25 HP of continuous duty, which at this price is practically unheard of! There's a 12 mph top speed and a 15% incline for added intensity if you need it. The running surface is spacious at 55" x 20", which should accomodate most runners although the motor could easily cope with a 58" or 60" deck. The 2 ply belt is thick, tough and well cushioned and running over the big 2.75" rollers it should wear well so cutting down on maintenance costs as well as being kind to your joints. The build quality on all the Spirit range is top notch, and the XT200 is no exception, being as solid and stable as machines costing nearly twice as much. The use of quality components allied to the well matched motor, folding deck and frame should render the warranties little more than comfort blankets! It's quiet too - we could hold a conversation at higher speeds when carrying out our test and it merely whispered at a brisk walk! The warranties are class leading with a lifetime on the motor and frame, five years on the parts and electronics and two years on the labour. Not that you're likely to need them! As for the electonics, there's an easy to read, six window LED display with a message window that makes tracking your workout simple and straightforward. You also get 10 workout programs that provide plenty of variety and should stop your fitness program from getting stale. There are also hand grip pulse monitors as well as a chest belt for hands free heart rate monitoring. Sometimes reviews are simply a pleasure, and in common with the rest of the Spirit treadmill range, this one was no exception. It really makes you wonder how Spirit makes treadmills this good at these prices? Come on - a 3.25 HP motor on a machine costing under $1,700? But there's no visible compromise on quality or performance either. No corners cut in either design or construction. It's essentially a cleverly designed machine and begs the question as to whether you'd find a better overall package for your money?
