Spirit Z100 Treadmill Review

Our Spirit Z100 treadmill review examines a high quality, excellent value treadmill that appears to offer a great package for the money - is that the case?

The Z100 has much in common with the superb Spirit Z9 - the same powerful motor, deck, frame and warranties. The result is yet another addition from Spirit Treadmills to the congested and increasingly competitive mid-price treadmill market.

Dyaco, Spirit's parent company has hit on a winning formula with the Z series and by adding a few upgrades with each model in the range, it's pretty much covered this market segment with outstanding treadmills.

So what does the Spirit Z100 bring to the party?

Spirit Z100 Treadmill Review - What's it Like...?

At first glance, the Spirit Z100 treadmill looks uncannily similar to the Z9. The two treadmills share the same powerful 3.0 HP motor, which is capable of meeting the demands of casual home trainers and more serious runners with some ease.

During our test, the 12 mph top speed was achieved with no visible strain from the motor, whilst the power incline - capable of a 15% gradient - provides added intensity should it be required.

I found the large belt with its 55" x 20" running surface more than adequate for my stride length and the Cushion Flex Deck was responsive and forgiving on my ankles, knees and hips.

The smoothness of the ride is in no small part down to the oversized 2.75" rollers, which facilitate the travel of the 1" thick, 2 ply belt, minimising 'grab' and belt friction and ultimately wear and tear on the belt. Useful in helping to keep maintenance costs down.

The deck itself folds easily and with little effort and the transport wheels make stowing the treadmill out of sight when not in use a cinch.

In addition to the larger rollers, the display console has been upgraded on the Z100 and has a six window, red LED display interface that provides clear information during your workout.

The 10 pre-set workout programs are common to the Z9, but the 10 one touch program keys and 12 quick speed and elevation controls built into the handles are an added feature of this model.

You get pulse grip heart rate monitors in the handles as well as a chest belt for hands-free heart rate monitoring.

The Z100 also gets an MP3 interface with built in speakers - I don't know about you, but music makes my workouts more productive.

Spirit's warranties are generous to a fault, particularly compared to leading brands in this price range like NordicTrack, for example. There's a lifetime warranty on the frame, 30 years on the motor, five years on the parts and electronics and one year on the labour.

The Spirit Z100 treadmill generally retails at $1,899, but our review found it for a bargain $1,518 at Elite Fitness Equipment.com with free shipping within the US.

  • There's no getting away from it, if you want a well built treadmill with quality components, a powerful motor and decent deck then Spirit treadmills are a brand that consistently delivers, model after model.

It's hard to be critical and find any significant negatives as the parts add up to such a satisfying whole.

The Spirit Z100 is yet another example of why Spirit is becoming a leading player in this tough area of the market - few other brands offer so much at these prices as the Z100 treadmill demonstrates.
