Spirit Z300 Treadmill Review

Our Spirit Z300 treadmill review demonstrates that the Spirit production line continues to turn out great treadmills - but how good is the Z300?

Well we liked the Z100, which is a tremendous mid-price treadmill and the Z300 is essentially the same machine, with one or two added features.

The Z series contains eight different models, but with a few it's very hard to spot the difference - as is the case with the Z300. The only thing that seems to differentiate the Z300 from the Z100 is upgraded stero speakers.

Whilst it's a good thing to offer choice, it does make the potential buyer's decison as to the right model to meet their needs a little harder than it ought to be.

Having said that, the Z300 is a very impressive treadmill that sports a big motor, spacious deck and lengthy warranties and represents a durable, cost effective treadmill for home use.

Spirit Z300 Treadmill Review - What's it Like...?

Just as the Z100 ticked all the right boxes for me when it comes to a quality mid-price treadmill for the more serious home fitness enthusiast, so does the Z300.

The powerful 3.0 HP motor is found on several models in the Z series line up and is a proven performer.

Our test left us impressed with its quiet assurance when operating at its top speed of 12 mph, exhibiting no sign of stress or strain. If you're looking for a treadmill to run on then the Z300 should cope with most of your workout demands with little trouble at all.

If you need an additional challenge you can always use the 15% power incline to up the intensity of your workout.

The 55" x 20" running area easily accommodated me in full flight and should suit all but the tallest athletes. Allied with the comfortable Cushion Flex Deck, this is a forgiving and responsive surface to train on.

The big 2.75" rollers contribute to the ride quality and even out the travel of the 1" thick, 2 ply belt.

Large rollers like these reduce belt friction and tension resulting in less strain on the belt and extending it's working life - cutting down on maintenance costs for you in the long term!

If space to house the Z300 is a concern, the deck folds and makes storage between workouts less of an issue.

The six window, LED display console is identical to that on the Z100 and is a functional usable interface, which provides a clean readout of your workout information.

There are 10 workout programs, including preset and manual programs and 10 one touch program keys and 12 quick speed and elevation controls built into the treadmill's handles.

Heart rate monitoring is via pulse grip monitors in the handles and a hands free chest strap.

The only real difference between the Z100 and Z300 are the stereo speakers in the console that work with the MP3 interface.

As we've come to expect from Spirit, the warranties are amongst the best in this price range, with a lifetime warranty on the frame, 30 years on the motor, five years on the parts and electronics and one year on the labour.

The Z300 lists at $1,999, but our Spirit Z300 treadmill review found it for a discounted $1,599 at Elite Fitness Equipment.com with free shipping within the US.

Spirit Z300 Treadmill Review - How Does it Rate...?

Spirit Z300 Treadmill
  • Power - 7
  • Running Area - 6
  • Cushioning - 6
  • Build Quality - 6
  • Reliability - 6
  • Noise - 6
  • Design - 7
  • Controls and Programs - 7
  • Warranties - 8
  • Value for Money - 7

  • OVERALL RATING - 66/100
  • Given that it's practically the same treadmill, the Spirit Z300 treadmill rates as highly as the Z100 in most respects.

However, I wouldn't pay the best part of an extra $100 for a speaker upgrade so it doesn't represent quite as good value for money to me as the Z100.

Having said that, this is still a very good treadmill with the kind of build quality, components and performance normally found on treadmills costing upwards of $3,000.

For me, Spirit and Sole, have pretty much sown up this area of the market and you won't get this much treadmill for your money from other brands.
