Treadmill Belt Lubricant

Applying treadmill belt lubricant on a regular basis can help to prolong belt life and reduce strain on your motor - makes sense, huh?

I'm constantly amazed at how many people never carry out even basic care and maintenance on their treadmill.

Would you buy a car and never get it serviced? Of course not. A treadmill is an expensive purchase so do lavish even some rudimentary care and attention on it - it will pay off in the long run!

Lubricating the treadbelt should be part of a regular treadmill service.

Now not every treadmill needs a belt lubricant - some have waxed belts that don't need it, others are made of materials that don't need lubrication.

Treadbelts are usually the first major component on a treadmill that needs replacing, depending on the quality and materials used in its manufacture.

A lubricant will reduce friction between the belt and rollers over which the belt travels. Friction can cause excessive tension on the belt, wearing it down and causing it to stretch.

Friction also results in a jerky ride as the belt 'grabs' the rollers.

Applying some lube in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions is essential if you want the belt to last as long as it's intended to.

Some lubricants may actually damage your treadbelt so we would suggest you buy some belt lubricant from the manufacturer or dealer when you purchase your treadmill, then stock up when you use it up.

That way you'll be sure to apply the optimum product for your particular treadbelt.

For instance some belts require a silicon based treadmill belt lubricant, whereas silicon will damage some belts.

Most belts will require lubrication every three months, but again check the manufacturer's instructions and those on the lubricant packaging.

If you're looking for lubricant there are plenty of places to buy it online. You might want to start with Lifespan treadbelt lubricant - a quality, odour free, spray on silicon lube normally on sale at $16.99 for a year's supply.
