Treadmill Service
A regular treadmill service is a good way of ensuring that your treadmill continues to perform in the long run - so how do you service a treadmill?First off, check when you buy your treadmill whether the manufacturer or dealer offers a service package with the treadmill. This would be in addition to the warranty, which you can exercise when something goes wrong. There's normally a charge for a service on an out of warranty machine, just as with most cars, but with some quality manufacturers it may well come at no extra or a minimal charge. Essentially, as warranties become longer - particularly with high end machines - its used as a means of minimising any future claims against lengthy warranties. It's sometimes more cost effective to provide free servicing rather than replace expensive components or provide a new treadmill costing several thousand dollars. A service is invariably carried out in your own home by a certified tech and for us is an essential part of the manufacturer or dealer's after sales service and may help to avoid future treadmill repairs altogether. If your dealer or the manufacturer doesn't offer a post-warranty routine service and maintenance package then it's worth looking online for companies that do. If you've bought a cheap treadmill then it may well be more cost effective to buy a new one. High end machines costing $3,000, $4,000 or more are definently worth a regular treadmill service program. If you've the know how and the time, you could also carry out routine maintenance yourself - be careful that it doesn't invalidate the warranty, though! Simple tasks like regular treadmill belt lubrication are easy enough, but overhauling the motor or display console may need an expert. Depending on how much you use your treadmill an annual service should suffice, although belts that need lubricating should be done every three months or as often as recommended by the manufacturer.
